ADHD, ASC & LD Belgium : “Neurodiversity and LGBTQIA+ identities”

ADHD, ASC & LD Belgium Presents

BOOK NOW – Saturday 21 April, 14.00 to 16.00  “Neurodiversity and LGBTQIA+ identities” meeting

Are you a neurodivergent member of the LGBTQIA+ community?  Do you feel like you don’t fit into traditional gender norms?  Or is your child, family member, or student part of the LGBTQ+ community?  Perhaps you’re questioning your own gender identity or sexual preferences or maybe your child just came out to you?  Are there ways to support all learners in all classrooms that you would like to explore?  Are you a curious parent interested in exploring the best ways to support your child?

We’d like to invite you to join us for conversations about gender equity, sexuality, and challenge!

Some topics we’ll discuss:
Heteronormativity within our society
Amatonormativity, sex, and relationships
Gender, identity, and pronouns
Neurogenders
Connections between neurodiversity and the LGBTQIA+ community
Anyone who’s genuinely seeking information about these topics is welcome to attend.

Our speakers, Scott and Lora-Elly, have first-hand experience with both neurodiversity and the LGBTQIA+ community and will be present to answer your questions. Depending on how many registrations we receive, the event will be split into two groups: one for young neurodivergent folks, and one for teachers, parents, and professionals.

Our speakers:
Scott Lawrence is a father and grandfather, a licensed American teacher, administrator, and instructional coach with 40 years of experience in public and independent schools.  Throughout his career, he has worked extensively with schools, individual teachers, and families to support all types of learners.  He also provides counseling and support for LGBTQIA+ families.

Lora-Elly Vannieuwenhuysen is a neurodivergent writer and artist.  She recently contributed to a presentation on autism, sexuality, and relationships at the study day of the Flemish Autism Reference Centres.  She also wrote our webpage Autism and LGBTQIA+ identities, and her drawings serve as a neurodiversity-affirmative therapeutic tool for multiple Leuven-based therapists.

We thank our speakers for donating their expertise, and ask non-members for a payment of 10 euro to cover the fees to hire the room.
We will be meeting at the Rainbow House in Brussels.

Free for members of ADHD, ASC and LD Belgium
“Neurodiversity and LGBTQIA+ identities”, meeting on Sunday 21 April – ADHD, ASC & LD Belgium

📢 European Summit 2024

As announced in the national media, the European Summit will take place on the 17th April and 18th April 2024, which could cause major disruption to the capital’s road network.

The disruption is expected to start at 07:00 and could affect the APEEE school transport service. Due to this situation, we anticipate the risk of delays and/or cancellations to the usual routes. The transport service will keep the concerned parents informed in real time.

We understand that this may cause inconvenience and would like to thank you in advance for your understanding and patience in this exceptional circumstance. We will do our best to minimise disruption.
